AUDITION DATES
Auditions will be held on Thursday, 9/5 and Friday, 9/6. Sign up for ONE, not both days.
WHAT HAPPENS AT AUDITIONS
When you arrive at TURN OF RIVER MIDDLE SCHOOL (new location!), you will be checked in outside the auditorium, given a number and your picture will be taken. Everyone who auditions will sing and will be taught a dance combination for the dance component of the audition. You will sing individually in front of our directors and production team and get to dance in a group. Everyone must sing and dance - Expect to wait at least an hour once you arrive as you will need to learn the dance combination and have time to practice it. Some students will sing and then dance; some will dance and then sing - depending on the time they arrive.
Parents are welcome to wait in the lobby with their children, but will not be allowed to be in the auditorium. There is no eating allowed in the auditorium or lobby; please eat a snack BEFORE you arrive and bring water, labeled with your name on it if possible.
WHAT TO PREPARE AND BRING TO AUDITIONS
You need to prepare a song that best shows off your voice and bring the sheet music for our accompanist. Spend a few days or weeks learning your song so you feel comfortable singing it! Please prepare an up-tempo musical theater song (from a Broadway show) , NOT a pop or contemporary song!
If you do not have the sheet music, you can buy it from www.musicnotes.com. You will be asked to sing part of the song, about 16 -32 bars of music (which is about 30 seconds to a minute of singing), so pick the part of the song that shows off your voice and personality. You do not have to memorize it. Our musical director will accompany you on piano with the sheet music you provide so practice singing with the music - not a capella. You do not need to bring in sheet music if you are singing a song from Anything Goes although if you want to specify which 'cut' or part of the song you want to sing, it will be helpful to bring that.
WHAT TO WEAR FOR AUDITIONS
Wear comfortable clothes and shoes that you can dance in - no flip flops and no bare or socks-only feet! This is for your safety! Sneakers are fine if you don't have dance shoes. Bring water !! You'll need it!
CASTING/CALLBACKS
With so many students auditioning each year, we are not able to cast everyone who auditions, unfortunately.
We will post the callback list on our website, www.stamfordallschoolmusical.org by Friday evening (late), 9/6. Callbacks are a chance for the directors to see certain students an additional time. If you do not see your name on the callback list that does not mean you aren't in the show; it just means that the directors do not need to see you an additional time. Please wait until you see the final cast list which will be posted later in the week.
REHEARSAL DAYS
We will work rehearsal days around our students' schedules as best as possible. It is hard to pinpoint which days we will be rehearsing until we see who our cast is and what conflicts people have. The schedule will be different week to week. If you have a lot of afterschool activities and cannot be flexible, do not audition. Plan to have rehearsals 2-3x/week in September, 3-4x/week in October & November with some Saturday rehearsals in November. Tech week rehearsals and all 5 performances are mandatory.
