ONLY STUDENTS AGES 12 THROUGH 12TH GRADE MAY PARTICIPATE THIS YEAR.
There is a $75 participation fee for cast & crew- scholarships are available for students who are on free/reduced lunch
If you are interested in being considered as a stage crew member and are age 12 through 12th grade, complete the registration form below. You do not need to select an audition date. You will be contacted about an informational meeting for crew candidates which will take place at a date TBD in September; due to COVID-19, we will need to limit our crew size this year.
We will not be using a live orchestra this year so will not audition student musicians for this year's production.
What happens at the audition?
When you arrive at Newfield Elementary School, you will checked in outside the school, in the front of the building, given a number and your picture will be taken. Everyone who auditions will sing and will be taught a dance combination for the dance component of the audition. You will sing individually in front of our directors and production team and get to dance in a group. Everyone must sing and dance - If we bring students inside to sing, they will need to wear a mask; one will be provided if you forget to bring one. Expect to wait at least an hour once you arrive as you will need to learn the dance combination and have time to practice it. Some students will sing and then dance; some will dance and then sing - depending on the time they arrive.
Parents are welcome to wait outside with their children. There is no eating allowed in the auditorium; please eat a snack BEFORE you arrive and bring water, labeled with your name on it if possible.
What to prepare and bring on audition day:
You need to prepare for your audition before you arrive. We know you have not had a lot of notice prior to auditions this year. This year, because of Covid-19 safety protocols, we will not be have our musical director accompany you on piano in order to eliminate the need to pass sheet music back and forth between the student and musical director; instead, we are requiring that all students prepare one of the songs listed below instead of choosing their own song choice. If you scroll up on this page, you will find instructions where you can download a link to the rehearsal tracks for all the songs in our musical review. Pick one song and practice singing along to it at home; we will play the same rehearsal track at the audition. Try not to get distracted by the voice that says "rehearsal track" softly throughout the recording! You will know what we're talking about if you download the music and play it! You do not need to memorize the whole song. Once you sign up, we will email you more information on where to obtain sheet music for the song you choose from this list or you can simply find the lyrics on the web or by purchasing it on www.musicnotes.com. Choose one of the songs that really shows off your voice. You will be asked to sing part of the song, about 16 -32 bars of music (which is about 30 seconds to a minute of singing), so pick the part of the song that shows off your voice and personality. You do not have to memorize it.
What to wear during auditions:
Wear comfortable clothes and shoes that you can dance in - no flip flops and no bare or socks-only feet! This is for your safety! Sneakers are fine if you don't have dance shoes. Bring water !! You'll need it!
Inside or outside?
We will likely bring one student at a time inside to sing before the directors; dance auditions will be held outside. Masks must be worn while inside. Students will be required to be socially distant while outside and during the outdoor dance auditions.

With so many students auditioning, we will not be able to cast everyone, unfortunately, and due to challenges caused by COVID-19, we will have to limit our cast size. We will post the callback list on our website, www.stamfordallschoolmusical.org by Tuesday evening (late), 9/14. Callbacks are a chance for the directors to see certain students an additional time. If you do not see your name on the callback list that does not mean you aren't in the show; it just means that the directors do not need to see you an additional time. Please wait until you see the final cast list which will be posted later in the week.
We will have both in-person and remote rehearsals; where possible, we will rehearse outdoors as weather permits. Indoor rehearsals will be limited to small groups - masks will be required for all indoor rehearsals, along with social distancing.
We will work rehearsal days around our students' schedules as best as possible. It is hard to pinpoint which days we will be rehearsing until we see who our cast is and what conflicts people have. The schedule will be different week to week. If you have a lot of afterschool activities and cannot be flexible, do not audition. We have a shortened rehearsal timeline and cannot work around absences as we have done in year's past.
ACCEPTING YOUR ROLE:
If you are cast, please note:
